i have started meditating again. i wonder if this time it might stick. i highly recommend the healthy minds app. for me it is the right balance of teaching and guidance and i appreciate that it leans gently into the science of it all. it’s easy, you can do it, too, if you want to. nobody’s saying that you want to, or that you should want to. but if you want to, you can, or you can try it and if you try it and realize that you don’t want to, you can put that nagging question — “should i learn to meditate??” — behind you and that way next time some annoying guy who looks like me asks “have you tried meditating??” you can be like, “yes shut up.”
i wondered if writing down observations of my thoughts as they came and went might be a good way to put mindfulness into practice. an interesting thing might be for you to read this, and then do the exercise yourself and just see where it takes you.
worth noting that while i was feeling sad when i wrote this, i don’t feel particularly sad now. as meditation and poetry1 and the menzingers2 teach us, no feeling is final.
don’t forget it. or if you do forget it, gently bring your attention back to it.
amen.
i know we like to goof around on here especially when it comes to italians but where can i get a quirked-up shorty like this??
